In its 12th year on the GNCC schedule, the Powerline Park GNCC in St. Clairsville, OH is known for its numerous treacherous mud holes and the aptly named “Mud Fleas” – the thousands of spectators that these obstacles attract. Despite the abnormally dry conditions on this particular weekend there was still plenty of mud and excitement to go around!
It is often considered “taboo” in the sports world to speak of a sweep before it is completed, but with Bryan Buckhannon putting 4×4 Open win number 12 in the books we can’t help but think about the possibility of him completing the perfect 13 for 13 season at the finale in two weeks.
Kirkland Vest earned his fourth 16-19 C class win of the year and in doing so also clinched the championship. BNR’s Robert Smith fought a hard battle down to the wire and ultimately finished 2nd in the U2 class and 2nd in the Utility Overall.
Kevin Yoho was featured on the event t-shirt for the weekend and put in an inspired ride in front of his hometown fans. Yoho ran with the lead group for much of the 2-hour event, and looked to be in position for a possible podium finish before a hard crash in lap 3 left him to salvage what he could. Yoho finished the day in 7th place. Johnny Gallagher followed Yoho in 8th place.
Cameron Bruce topped the always competitive College B class on his GBC XC-Racer equipped machine ahead of fellow GBC rider and championship rival Kenny Shick, who finished the day in 2nd place.
Other outstanding rides by GBC racers included: Scott Day 2nd (4×4 Lites); Forrest Whorton 2nd (4×4 Senior); Jay Shadron 3rd (College A); Todd Moskala 3rd (Vet B); Kara Merritt 4th (Women); Clint Graff 5th (College A); Leroy Shook 5th (Senior A)
